The next installment of the Tribes line is going to be released late in 2004. Tribes: Vengeance is being developed by Irrational Games (of System Shock 2 and Freedom Force fame) and will have an extensive single-player game to go along with the line?s already well known multiplayer aspect. The game itself is utilizing an enhanced version of the Unreal Engine, and uses it to bring the environments and characters to life. With the use of this engine, Tribes will be able to boast characters that have facial expressions and fully realized personalities, vehicles that will kick up dust and wonderful special effects from the weapons.
The single player side of Tribes: Vengeance will have players taking part in a galactic thriller and see bits and pieces of other stories that grow and develop behind the scene. The player will also be able to see the same story from different viewpoints and from different characters.
According to Philip O?Neil, VU Games? SVP of Sales and Marketing, one of the goals behind Tribes is to "...immerse the gamer in the story similar to the way a blockbuster film pulls you in." O?Neil says that they challenged Irrational Games to make a game that will grab the player and not let go. "And they have risen to the task", claims O?Neil.
But what about the multiplayer action in Tribes: Vengeance, has its quality gone down? No. Michael ?KineticPoet? Johnston, a leading developer in the Tribes community, has headed up the design for this portion of the game. Johnston says that his team will talk with many of the players and ask them what they want out of the online aspect of the game.
Stay tuned for more Tribes: Vengeance info as it develops.
