Etherlords II, the sequel to the turn - based fantasy RPG, is adding a little something extra to the mix this time around. As the original just had fast paced tactical combat, this iteration adds an exploration element to the game, much like that in Age of Wonders. Run into an enemy on the 3D world map, and you're instantly brought into combat.
This is not all there is to the game though. As the hero from one of four races, you are able to take part in side quests, talk to NPC's, and affect the story depending on which faction you are leading. Your hero is also the most important part of your army, as they will gain experience, level up, and learn new spells that will be instrumental to your overall victory.
Combat in Etherlords II is similar to that in Magic: The Gathering. Players have a 'deck' of spells, and collecting these spells is done in the adventure portion of the game. Casting spells is accomplished through the use of ether, a magical currency that accumulates after each turn. Fans of the old game will quickly realize where the developers have taken the sequel, and newcomers to the franchise will find this game a real treat. Look for it this Fall.
