With a nice blend of sci-fi and fantasy themes, the developers at Realm Interactive have created the MMORPG that is now called Exarch. Taking place in a mysterious future, you are forced to survive during the collapse of a nine millennia old Empire. Using blasters, power armor, swords, and spells, you must not only survive, but also thrive in this bleak realm.
Exarch focuses more on action than most other MMORPG's. Combat takes a Diablo approach, forcing the player to battle hordes of enemies instead of a single creature at a relatively slow pace. Four races are available to choose from, and each of these yields 3 race-specific skills. A heavy emphasis has been placed on player formed factions and questing. The factions will dictate the social structure of the game, and questing can be done anywhere in the Exarch world or in randomly generated dungeons.
For role players who desire a more action oriented experience than the regular MMORPG can offer, Exarch may be just the game they have been looking for. This isn't just the typical RPG, and is not meant for just the typical role player. It may even be good enough to convert die-hard Diablo fans. We'll just have to wait and see.
