This winter, PS2 owners are going to get their very own, exclusive release of Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. This terrorist-bashing game is now going to utilize the PS2 online capabilities by allowing up to 4 people to take on the game cooperatively. To facilitate this process, Sony is also releasing a special Syphon Filter headset for communication between teammates, much like the Socom head mounted microphone. Of course, for the poor man, there's always pre-written macros that can be used via the D-button on the controller, but what fun is that?
As expected of a next generation title, the graphics are brighter, animations are smoother, and there is a whole slew of weapons to use. However, players will only be able to carry 4 weapons at a time, so selecting the right armament before each mission is crucial. The combat protocol has been beefed up as well, so players can now move all over the place while keeping their sights honed in on any specific body part of an enemy.
Sony is really going to put some marketing muscle into this title, hopefully saving The Omega Strain from the same fate that the other Syphon Filter games met. From the looks of it, they are well on their way. The game controls extremely well, and with 17 different missions and over 100 weapons and gadgets, it would be hard not to penetrate the market with this game.
