Smart AI Is, As Smart AI Does...

AI has always been something of a flaw in RTS games. While some may have looked smart, a majority of the time there's either a super-cheap AI glitch you can take advantage of to destroy your computer enemy, or the computer will simply just overwhelm you with a massive army (or flat out cheat). This is a problem that probably won't be fixed any time soon, but Empire Interactive and the guys at Black Cactus think they have what it takes to remedy the situation.

One of the key aspects of their upcoming PC RTS, Warrior Kings: Battles is the AI, which can not only set up functioning economies, but also probe your defenses for weaknesses and build workable formations. The game will also feature a new AI Diplomacy feature that will help to add depth to the single player experience by provoking gamers to think they're playing a human opponent. Another big feature of the game is the new Valhalla mode, which will allow players to create and save a collection of huge armies -- thanks to a new resource point system -- and allow them to get into the thick of battle quickly. During online gameplay, units will even respawn.

A new, advanced control system will allow players to direct their armies, develop defenses, and mount attacks without multiple mouse clicks. The game will also take advantage of sophisticated tactical strategies to allow veteran troops the ability to use terrain to hold off armies composed of superior numbers.

So far this new step in RTS AI looks promising, but if not there?s always the online multiplayer experience.
