With the advent of mobile gaming merely on the horizon, phone companies are beefing up their lineups for the holidays. Jamdat Mobile, a Los Angeles based wireless entertainment company, is doing just this. They have acquired a number of licenses in the past, and this E3 they announced a couple more deals that are bound to help their sales in the future.
Mobile gamers are now going to get a chance to play one-on-one basketball via the NBA licensed phone game, NBA One-on-One. This title promises to be quick and easy to learn, and offer hours of basketball entertainment. Exclusively for Verizon Wireless customers, people will be able to download NBA One-on-One and pay either a two dollar monthly charge, or a five dollar unlimited use charge.
Jamdat also announced at this E3 that it has acquired Hexacto Games Inc., a leading provider for Palm, Pocket PC, and 3G phone platforms. As a result of this acquisition, Jamdat gets the rights to all of Hexacto's games, as well as being able to integrate Hexacto's Montreal development team into their company.
This spells good things for mobile gamers, as pure phone games will be fast, fun, and more importantly, cheap; attributes that seem to be alluding the Nokia N-Gage's starting lineup. Whatever happens, it will be an interesting year for mobile gaming, and we'll be here to keep you up to date.
