If you haven't heard of CNET, someone's probably reading this to you off of their computer, because you probably don't have one. It's true. CNET's been around that long and they're that big. CNET has steadily grown, has a massive following and seems to be doing very well for itself. So, what's the next step for this behemoth? CNET.com has decided to create their own hard-core gamers' network. Enter CNET's Gamecenter Alliance. You may be saying to yourself, "Are these guys really gamers or are they just stuffed shirts?!" Well, I don't know any of them personally, but I'm sure most of you will recognize some of their 'elite launching' partners: Inside Mac Games? MSBox? ...STOMPED? ...thought so. CNET's hand picked some of the best websites in online video game media and brought them together to attempt to create the definitive resource for gamers.

CNET's strategy appears to be to build a network of independent sites which are renowned in their own right and integrate the best content of all involved to provide the hottest and most interesting news to hard-core gamers in one spot. They have but one goal: 'to be the number-one source of information for hard-core gamers.' They have the size, the power and the financing. Now it's merely a matter of seeing whether or not the hard-core gaming community will accept CNET Gamecenter Alliance as one of their own...
