Bethesda Softworks will be publishing Magic & Mayhem: Art of Magic, a sequel to the award-winning Magic and Mayhem.According to Bethesda Softworks, 'Art of Magic' effortlessly mixes real-time strategy, role-playing, and adventure into an immersive experience that will once again entertain and enthrall PC gamers looking for something new.'While I know that sounds like a tall order, I had the pleasure of seeing a preview of the game at E3 this year, and was delighted at the depth and strategic elements of the game, as well as the simplicity of the intuitive spell building system. Basically, you have three schools of magic, represented by columns in which you arrange containers (which look like amulets). Dragging and dropping a spell ingredient into one of these 'amulets' creates a spell. The type of spell created depends on the school of magic and the ingredient used. For a novice, that means that you, too, can create spells. Play around with it a bit and you'll see what spells you have to choose from. As you become more familiar with the system, you will be able to create specific spells by recalling the necessary ingredient and placement. As you progress, you can discovery new ingredients, allowing for a host of new spells and added power (and complexity). Art of Magic has great 3D effects and topography along with an addictive strategic element, as well. (Don't tell my editor, but my appointment with Bethesda Softworks went a bit long due to my inability to leave this game.)Magic & Mayhem: Art of Magic is expected to ship around Christmas 2000. This one is definitely one to keep an eye out for.
