DETAILS OF UPCOMING INDREMA CONSOLE SYSTEM

Think you know of all of the upcoming gaming systems to be released? Not if you haven't heard of the INDREMA ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM (or, IES ). Founded just months ago in January of this year, Indrema believes that all operating system software must evolve in an Open Source manner, where application software may remain proprietary. Currently, Indrema is developing a new distribution of the Linux OS designed specifically for TV and HDTV applications. One planned product to develop from this OS is the INDREMA ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM. According to Indrema, the IES will be more than just a video game console. Other applications include the 'Indrema Personal TV system', the 'Indrema Personal Music system', and a version of the industry standard Mozilla Web Browser. Based upon an Open Source system kernal and graphics engine, the IES will allow developers to take full advantage of the architecture. This architecture is based on a x86 core memory design, with a modular AGP 4x graphics interface, allowing for easy upgrading of the GPU via a Slide Bay mechanism.

Games will be on a CD or DVD media. (Lower end units may or may not have a DVD unit.) The first unit, the L600, will offer 3D gaming and high-speed internet access, for online gaming, MP3 downloading and full-featured Web browsing. Some models of the L600 will include a 56K modem, and connectivity to a cable modem or DSL modem is available via the 10/100Mbps Ethernet port.

Indrema estimates that around 30 titles should be available for the launch of the L600. These titles will most likely include Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, Heavy Gear II and Sim City 2000, to name a few.
