Eidos is bringing us the next iteration of the Bionicles in the form of Bionicle Heroes, coming out in October for the PC, PS2, Game Cube, DS and the GBA. This game reminded me a lot of LEGO Star Wars which came out last year, so if you liked that title, you're gonna dig this one. The PC and console version are being developed by Traveller's Tales, well known for their excellent platformers, and the handheld versions are being developed by Amaze, who made the LEGO Star Wars GBA version. The levels look to be huge with lots of platforming goodness. When you defeat the bosses (the Paraka), you will be able to then play as those characters the next go round to access areas you previously couldn't reach. This game looks like a good one not only for fans of the toys, but also for platformer lovers.
Urban Chaos: Riot Response hits this June for the PS2 and Xbox and is just what it sounds like - the city is in turmoil and its up to you to be the hero.
You play as a hero cop who works in conjunction with other civil servant saviors like firemen, other cops and paramedics to get the job done. There is actual FMV used in the game to lend it a realistic flair, and a genuine newscaster who wrote her own newscasts for the script was used in the game.
As you fight the good fight, you'll encounter enemies and you can choose to either incapacitate them, which will yield you power-ups for your weapons, or you can simply fry them with the stun gun to kill them. No power-ups, but somehow more satisfying at times. You'll use firemen and the like during your missions to put out fires and to help you get through areas that you couldn't get through by yourself. There are plenty of unlockables in the form of weapons upgrades, new levels and better equipment.
An interesting move to the videogame world is the cult classic film by Quentin Tarentino, Reservoir Dogs. I never really found myself saying hey, that movie would make a great game, but we shall see.
Michael Madsen is lending his voice to reprise the role of Mr. Blonde in the videogame adaptation. The game will consist of stepping into the roles of each of the wacky characters from the film and reliving the memorable moments of the movie through driving and shooting missions. You'll be trying to get answers to questions like "What happened to Mr. Blue and Mr. Brown?", "What actually happened at the heist?" and "Where did Mr. Pink stash the diamonds?" You can take people prisoner, beat the crap out of them, threaten folks or simply kill them. Of course, if you kill an innocent person, the cops won't take it lying down. You can use anything in the game for cover and will often need to as the numbers of your enemies grow. The complete soundtrack from the film will be used in the game and you'll have complete control over the radio, so be prepared to hear plenty of 70's groove.
Lion's Gate Films had a lot of input in the making of the game, although Tarentino has stayed hands off for this one. What's your beef with games anyway, Quent? This one is pretty bloody. If you are a kid, go buy Bionicle Heroes and quit reading this. Res Dogs comes out this Fall for the PC, the PS2 and the Xbox.
They were also showing Rogue Trooper for the PS2, Xbox and PC set to hit shelves in a matter of days. This one's a futuristic 3rd person shooter. But if you'd rather sneak around, try Shinobido: Soul of the Ninja from the makers of Tenchu. This one looked a lot like Tenchu actually and has you sneaking about on missions requiring you to kill, rob, escort or kidnap various people. There are over two hours of cinematics in this game and it looks to be shaping up nicely. Shinobido: Soul of the Ninja will be coming out for the PS2 and PSP. |
