European adventure game developer, Guppy Works, was in West Hall this year looking for a US publisher of their newest title, The Ugly Prince Duckling.
This title follows the life of a 14 year-old Hans Christian Anderson in 1820 as he tries to find his lot in life. Anderson starts off trying to become an actor, but soon finds that he is much better as a writer.
In the game, the princess has been enchanted by a troll, and H.C. Anderson must try to break the spell and save her. The only way for the young writer to cast the evil shadow off of the land is to find the Tinderbox and restore light to the streets as well as keep the ill-fated princess alive.
This vibrant and very alive game seems to depict the streets of the time impeccably. The gutters are filled with dirty water, the cobblestones are discolored and the town is packed with tons of people. The game features more than 60 real-time rendered characters and the story itself seems to come straight out of HCA's books.
Hopefully Guppy Works found some prospective publishers because I can't wait to get this game in and play through all of the puzzles it has to offer. |
