So Ubisoft had a shroud of mystery covering their upcoming next-gen game from Free Radical (the guys that brought us the awesome TimeSplitters series), but they did have a spiffy theater showing a presentation on the game. Haze is set to debut on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC some time next year and is an FPS with incredible looking graphics and edge-of-your-seat action. As new "recruits", we were ushered in for a personal view of what we could expect should we join the Mantel Corp team. A beefy sergeant was on hand to give us the run-down on all things Mantel Corp.
See 25 years in the future, wars are fought and won by privately hired military groups, the top dog of which is Mantel Corp. From what they showed us of a typical day in the life of a Mantel soldier, it's one giant keg party. Playing football, having a great time, shooting stuff up, who could ask for anything more? Mantel's guys are stronger, faster, better looking and more buff than all the rest. They have the best weapons and equipment that money can buy and they are physically enhanced by bio-medical injections courtesy of Mantel. Since Mantel seems to control most of the companies in the world that make life comfy, these super-cool injections come from one of their many in-house pharmaceutical companies. So Mantel is all about kicking ass and making life better for the common man, right?
So by now, all of us are ready to join up! Then we got the opportunity to see actuall satellite footage of Mantel soldiers at war in a jungle. Everything's going fine. The chopper is humming, the adrenaline is flowing and these guys jump out and head into the jungle to wage war. Then something strange happens. The feed gets a little weird... and so does one of the soldiers. He sort of flips out. Then he kills some guy begging for his life. Just shoots him, like it was nothin', man! Then they cut the feed. Someone was yelling something about him needing some more... something. Man, it all happened so fast. It's just a little Haze-y... I'm not sure I'm ready to sign up with Mantel quite yet, but I definitely can't wait to find out what happened in that jungle.
We'll bring you more info as we get it. Check out the official game site for a look at the trailer. |
