Pay-To-Not-Delay:
Like the PC version, World of Tanks on the PS4 is completely free-to-play. There are, of course, items that can be paid for to boost your gameplay a bit. For the most part, these things take the form of advancing your game quicker than simply playing for free, allowing you to earn XP faster, which in turn, is used to upgrade your tanks and unlock new ones.

For a limited time (very limited, as of this writing), PS4 players can purchase Founder's Packs with some special goodies to get them going a bit quicker...

What You Get:
Founder's Pack #1 is the cheapest of the four available Founder's Packs and contains the fewest goodies, but they're all geared toward getting you advanced a bit quicker.

Specifically, you'll get:

  • KV-220, a Tier 5 Russian Heavy Tank
  • 1 Garage Slot (to store your tank in)
  • 100% Trained Crew
  • Premium Day (24 Hours of Premium Time)
  • 350,000 Silver
The KV-220 is a Premium Heavy Tank with frontal armor that's better than is found on most Heavy Tanks and it comes with preferential matchmaking. The Garage Slot keeps you from using up one of your existing slots to store this beast and the Premium Time lets you build XP faster for the first 24 Hours, giving you a taste of sweet, sweet Premium Time. The fully-trained crew means that you get to select a skill perk right off the bat. Pick something that reinforces your gameplay style or helps to compensate for your issues. Find yourself taking damage from rolling down steeper slopes than you should? Pick up Paratrooper Training to ease the pain. Or, just choose Mentor to rack up Crew XP quicker.

Additionally, there is a pretty good selection of camouflages for this tank, although a full set of four-season camos for a single week will run you 50,000 silver. Good thing this pack includes 350k, huh?

Why It Matters:
The natural progression in (strictly free-to-play) World of Tanks is that you start with a Light Tank, then earn enough XP and Silver to buy the upgrades for that tank, upgrading it to the point that you unlock the next tank in the tech tree. Then, you have to spend XP to research and Silver to buy that tank before you actually have that tank. This process of use, upgrade, research, unlock, buy, use... etc. is not a quick process, and the tech trees lead you through a variety of Light Tanks before you get into Medium Tanks and branch off into Artillery and Tank Destroyers, as well, making it take quite a long time to work your way through to a Heavy Tank. Which, in my opinion, probably works in the favor of most players, since Heavy Tanks move really slowly and it's probably best to learn on a Light Tank, rather than fumbling around in what should be one of the larger powerhouses on a given team. Still, players want what they want and who wouldn't want to take the wheel (and gun) of a huge, heavy-hitting tank lumbering across the battlefield and wipe out enemies with extreme prejudice?

The KV-220 is an experimental tank and is not connected to any tech tree. It is possible that it might be made available again, but currently the only way to get this tank is in a Founder's Pack. Mind you, there are four PS4 Founder's Packs, and all four have the KV-220. And, if you buy two Founder's Packs? Any duplicate tanks awarded will be substituted for their equivalent in Gold.

The Value:
Founder's Pack #1 is an entry-level pack, at $14.99 USD, but getting a Heavy Tank from jump is pretty nice, as is starting off with a fully-trained crew. If you've been dutifully scouting around in a Light Tank with around 30-50mm armor and 150-200 hit points you may be quite pleasantly surprised to slip into the resilience of a tank with a much heftier 100mm thick armor and 690 hit points. You won't move fast, but you'll live through a whole lot more punishment.

If you're looking to get your hands on a Heavy Tank and don't want to plunk down a lot of cash for the bells and whistles, Founder's Pack #1 is a nice option.
