Deadfall stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as casino-robbing siblings Addison and Liza. When a devastating winter storm sparks a deadly car crash during their getaway, as well as the senseless murder of a State Trooper, the pair is forced to go their separate ways to avoid detection. Addison sets out with the bulk of the cash with plans to rendezvous with Liza in Canada. Liza gets picked up from the side of the road by Jay (Charlie Hunnam), an ex-boxer who was released from prison that day and is on his way home to have an awkward Thanksgiving dinner with parents June (Sissy Spacek) and Chet (Kris Kristofferson), who also happens to be the former sheriff.

Meanwhile, the local police are out in force, seeking the man who gunned down the State Trooper. Led by the new sheriff, Becker (Treat Williams), they are determined to stop Addison before he kills again. The sheriff’s daughter, Hanna (Kate Mara, American Horror Story), also a local and quite competent cop, is left behind at the station in a classic case of daddy protecting his little girl, but she keeps managing to step into the middle of things by pure happenstance. As Jay, Liza and Addison all converge on Jay’s parents’ little farmhouse, sparks, bullets and blood will fly.

I actually enjoyed Deadfall much more than I initially thought I would. Eric Bana is amazing as Addison, the obviously disturbed killer who apologizes when he guns one man down and gleefully executes another, depending on whether he determines the victim in question to be an innocent or guilty person. His psychological profile, along with that of his younger sister, is very interesting to watch unfold and how he interacts with the people he comes across can be pretty disturbing. I wasn’t crazy about Olivia Wilde in her role, simply because she seemed to be playing a younger and more victimized character than seemed fitting to her. She was okay, just nothing stellar. However, Eric Bana, Charlie Hunnam, Sissy Spacek, Kris Kristofferson and Kata Mara were perfect in their roles.

Special features include a handful of featurettes and interviews, some behind the scenes footage and the trailer. Watching Deadfall on Blu-ray is the way to go because of the gorgeous icy outdoor vistas and ambient sounds that surround you. If you enjoy a good thriller, check out Deadfall. Bundle up under a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and watch the mayhem unfold.
