The Sims 3: Katy Perry's Sweet Treats
Score: 93%
Publisher: EA Games
Developer: The Sims Studio
Media: Download/1
Players: 1
Genre: Simulation

Graphics & Sound:

At the core, The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats plays like all the other Sims games. Most of what has been added is visually appealing, with a few new places to visit which look different from anything you have imagined before. Sweet Treats is very aptly named as everything that has been added is made of candy and looks absolutely delectable (and edible). You can have pillars made of candy canes, a guitar made of cupcakes, a banana split couch, and quite a bit more. You can make an entire house made of sweets if you want. Personally, I like the Chew on This window. Granted, it is a small thing but I like it. The Fountain of Treats is awesome as well! I would love to have a chocolate fountain that size! I also like the Lollipocalypse for decoration. It’s quite sculptural and yet candy-like as well. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about the clothing! There are quite a few new outfits for you to choose from. The everyday wear isn’t something I could see a person wearing in real life, but it is perfect for the Sims. I love the new formal wear. There are quite a few dresses on it that I would love to have in real life!

I do wish that Sweet Treats added more music, as it just feels that you should be listening to Katy Perry while you are playing. But you can still do custom music and as long as you own the Katy Perry songs, you can use them to listen to.

Gameplay:

While the overall gameplay hasn’t changed, The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats has added some new lots for your Sims to hang out in. Just like all of the items that you can buy, these lots look like someplace Hansel and Gretel would be quite happy to visit. It seems to me that the town Sims prefer the Patty’s Natural Baths pool more than the previous pools. As soon as I put it in, people were there all night. The pool is very laid back and relaxing in appearance. It is still decorated in candy colors, but they aren’t very prevalent so the overall feeling is calming and relaxing. The other two venues though, the Cake Pleasure Dome and Bonbon Lawn, are covered in candy and sweets.

Personally, I would like to visit the Cake Pleasure Dome, but I’m not sure I could stay in there too long. It is 100% ceiling to floor covered with things made of sugar. I think you might go into a diabetic coma just walking in the door, but the Sims seem to love it. While the Cake Pleasure Dome is set up like a bar and looks like it is meant for teens and adult Sims (which makes sense as it is a hangout type), the Bonbon Lawn is setup for the children to be in Heaven. There’s a fort, a swing set, a slide, and more; and all of them are made of sweets! All of these lots, including the Cake Pleasure Dome, are like Showtime and you are able to see inside of them and watch your Sims interact with other Sims.

Difficulty:

The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats isn’t any more or less difficult that any of the previous versions. The things that have been added simply make the game more fun. You will need to remember how to change the lot types and fix the lots so that they match the correct type for the new places. Otherwise, the only difficult thing is making sure that you earn enough money to buy all of the new things. While you can obviously look at them in the catalogue, they just don’t look as good until you get to see them on your lot, so get your Sims off to work and earn as much as you can. Of course, you can always choose a ready-made household that has a large amount of money just so you can buy all the new stuff and see what it all looks like.

Since The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats is not a new town, you can load up any of your existing games and simply add the new lots. This means that if you’ve got a town already set up and a family that you’ve been playing with for years, you can just continue that previous game with no trouble, which is really nice\.

Game Mechanics:

As I mentioned, you will need to make sure that you have the correct lot types to place the new buildings on. Patty’s Natural Baths and the Cake Pleasure Dome are both 30x20 and Bonbon Lawn is 30x30, so you will have to have at least a lot that big to place them on. Patty’s Natural Baths is of type Pool, the Cake Pleasure Dome is of type Hangout, and Bonbon Lawn is a Big Park so you will need to edit the lot that you want to put them on to the correct type and then you can find them under Community Lots and then choose Place a Copy. The game will highlight all the available lot types that it matches. In some towns, you will find that you will have to bulldoze down something to make room for the new places, but I am quite sure that you can find places that you don’t like to make room for these exciting new lots.

I’ve played quite a few of The Sims 3 expansions now and I must say that The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats is the most unique one so far. I am going to predict that it is going to be more popular with women and especially younger girls as I can’t really see men liking that many pastel colors at once, but I really like it. You don’t have to add many of the items to get a full feeling of the game, but you can add a lot and really decorate the town up. If you’re a fan of The Sims 3 and want to give your residents some exciting new toys, check out The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats today!
