Function:

Besides its ability to make your co-workers nervous, MonsterGecko?s PistolMouse FPS is, in function, just an optical mouse. As such, it is usable in much the same manner as any other optical mouse. (It is NOT a light gun. The movement input is registered by the movement of its base, just like any other optical mouse.) The difference here is that it is designed for play with First Person Shooters and provides a gun-like form factor to the mousing experience.

Performance:

The MonsterGecko PistolMouse FPS is a bit strange to look at and takes some getting used to, but with practice, it can actually be pretty decent for playing First Person Shooters. Mind you, as the name indicates, the PistolMouse FPS is designed with FPS games in mind, and is very clunky to use when just mousing around the desktop. I actually had popped it in and played around in Windows when I first received the PistolMouse and thought that the performance would be really poor based on that initial experience. I was quite pleased to find that the PistolMouse FPS offers a much superior experience in-game.

I would be quite surprised to hear if any professional gamers were ever to adopt the MonsterGecko PistolMouse FPS as their weapon of choice. But you have to admit that it looks cool as hell.

Drawbacks & Problems::

My only major complaint about the PistolMouse FPS would be that the ?right button,? or secondary button, is located beneath the trigger area, under the trigger guard, on the grip itself. This, combined with the fact that they are apparently trying to hide the button as much as possible to keep it as realistic looking as they can (and thus making a really short-throw button for it), makes it really easy to accidentally hit the secondary mouse button, either firing some weapon or pulling up a menu or whatever, depending on your current activity and setup. Otherwise, the design is pretty solid.
