Function:So, you saved up your hard earned allowance and bought yourself a Dreamcast. When you get it home and find out that since you don?t have a VCR and the hand-me-down TV set you got from your sister doesn?t have any of those new-fangled Audio/Video input jacks, you?ll be comforted to know that for a mere $20 (U.S.) Mad Catz can help you out of your predicament. The Mad Catz Dream Switch will allow those of us (okay, those of you) with stone age equipment to leap into the
20th century (or is that 21st?.. no matter) and enjoy something with a little more punch than your newly deceased Pong game. Plug one end into your Dreamcast and the other plugs into your cable ?in.? It even has a cable connection for your cable (or in your case, antenna) to plug into. Furthermore, the thing is smart. It knows that if you turn on your Dreamcast, you want to play. And if you don?t, you want to be able to watch TV. It switches over for you. How? Magic. Most of the gaming industry isn?t very sympathetic to anyone not-technologically-up-to-speed. Mad Catz is there for you. But, um... you DO have a cable connection on that thing... right? |
| Performance:The Mad Catz Dream Switch needs only to be installed. Of course, this is an incredibly daunting task which could take as much as one or two minutes to do (including the time it takes to open the box) and should not be attempted by anyone under the age of one. (A one-year-old may not have developed the required hand/eye coordination and dexterity needed to properly secure a cable connection.) Once installed, you merely have to remember what you were doing. It?s that simple. Fire and forget. If you plug it in, it will switch. |

Drawbacks & Problems::If you?re a little low on rich, generous uncles who own large electronic store franchises or you?re holding out on buying a TV set to see if anyone has electricity come Y2K, then the Mad Catz Dream Switch is the perfect ?patch? to usher you into the new millennium. The picture is clear and crisp (that is, if your television?s decent), and the fact that it automatically switches back and forth is a strange, new experience called a ?luxury? -- maybe you?ve heard of that before? That?s where you DON?T have to do more work than you really need to. |
