The
Mobile Monitor for the PSOne features a 5 inch LCD screen (measured diagonally), matches the PSOne both in color and style, and can be powered by an included mobile plug that plugs into a 12-volt DC outlet in an automobile, or can be powered using the AC adapter for the PSOne itself! Audio and video from the PSOne are fed into the
Mobile Monitor via an AV Multi connector built into the monitor itself. (This works just like a normal RCA cable, only really short and attached to the monitor...)
The Mobile Monitor can also be used with an external Audio/Video source, with built-in stereo RCA audio-in connections and a single RCA video-in connection. The connectors are designed to switch to Auxiliary automatically if a cord is plugged into the jack, so no PSOne/Aux switches are necessary. If you wish to send the audio out to external speakers, there?s a built-in headphone jack that will allow you to do just that (or listen on headphones, alternatively). Actually, that might not be a bad idea. The speakers in the unit aren?t horrible, but they?re not far from it. With the room in the design to install speakers, that?s to be expected, I suppose, but it?s decent enough to listen to for a while. When my car radio went on the fritz, I threw some CDs into my PSOne and listened to them for a trip that lasted more than two hours, and I?m still alive to tell the tale, so it?s not that bad -- but you wouldn?t choose to listen to the Mobile Monitor speakers over another option.
On the other hand, the picture is exceptionally nice for a 5 inch screen. Additionally, when coupled with a PSOne, you can have games when you?re parked and tunes when you?re driving -- just amp the headphone output and send it to your speakers. Want to run a PS2 in your ride, but don?t want it to be real visible? Install the PSOne with the Mobile Monitor within view and a PS2 out of sight. Then, just send your video into the PSOne?s monitor and it looks like you?re playing a PSOne unless someone pays attention to the specific game you?re playing.
