Code Breaker
Score: 95%
Developer: Pelican
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

Pelican?s Code Breaker is a cheat device for the PlayStation and PSone. In this case, the ?device? takes the form of a disc. The disc works in conjunction with a memory card to allow for the addition of new codes as well as other ?extended? functions. If you have one of the newer PlayStations that?s without a serial port, or a PSone (which has no serial port), then a cheat disc is your only choice.

Performance:

The good news is the Code Breaker does a good job at doing what it does. I?m not going to pretend that the Code Breaker is on the cutting edge of console hackery -- it?s more of a way to be able to use cheat codes without a hardware ?hook,? such as a serial port. And if your concern is getting to use that cheat code you found with your PlayStation game, then Code Breaker can do just what you need.

One feature that looks nice is the ?weekly updated? cheat codes available at Pelicancodebreaker.com. When I looked at the site, they had not begun adding codes to the site for the PlayStation yet. However, if they actually do start having weekly updated codes, this would be a great resource for gamers. If not, there are other places online to find cheat codes.

Features:
  • Easy-to-use interface
  • Hundreds of preloaded cheat codes
  • Decodes Game Shark codes
  • Weekly updated codes online
  • Made by the makers of the Xploder

Drawbacks & Problems::

The downside of the Code Breaker is that it doesn?t work with the PlayStation 2. Yes, I know that you can play your PlayStation games in your PS2, but that doesn?t mean the hardware inside is the same. When a cheat device starts telling a system directly what to do with memory locations, the results are going to vary with the systems used. Also, based on the way the disc is written, it simply won?t display properly on a PlayStation 2. The good news? A PS2 Code Breaker is on the way very soon, and as soon as we get our hands on one, we?ll let you know how it is.
