This new institute that Tommy is placed in has no real restrictions. It's off in the middle of nowhere and they're all on the honor system. Of course, when Victor (Mark Venturini) kills Joey (Dominick Brascia) on Tommy's first day, with an axe even, things just start going downhill from there. When there's murder even before Jason shows up, you know there's going to be a lot of blood. Not too long after Joey's murder, others start dying very quickly.
In the previous movie, I stated that you just didn't really care about the characters, so watching them die was funny. In Friday the 13th: Part V - A New Beginning though, you really do start to like some of the characters, so their deaths are at least a little more disturbing. Granted there are the ones that you just hate, like the redneck and his horrible mother. I was really looking forward to seeing them die in a horrific way. But the rest of the people were pretty decent.
There are some differences in this movie and the previous ones. The hockey mask is different for one thing. Instead of being a Redwings mask with red stripes, it has silver stripes. Also, Jason uses a few different weapons from his now trademark machete. Also there are a few more survivors than normal. Of course, by this point they are going to have to start leaving at least some traces to continue the series in the next movie, so I guess that's a good reason for the differences.
Just like the previous movie, there are a lot of special features. There is yet another Lost Tales from Camp Blood to watch. They're fun to swap discs and watch them in order at this point. There's also the Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited Part II. For some reason, I find these fake documentaries especially funny, so I was quite glad to see the second part.
Friday the 13th: Part V - A New Beginning Deluxe Edition is a great addition to the series. I like it much better than the previous one. You really need to go pick it up and continue the series today.
