Naruto Vol. 8: Sharingan Revived continues the young ninjas of Squad 7's second exam. In the last few episodes (from Volume 7), the Genin had finished their first test and were directed to the Forest of Death for their second Chunin Exam.

Volume 7's last episode, "Eat or Be Eaten: Panic In the Forest", left Sasuke and Sakura facing down a strong Grass Ninja while Naruto breaks out of the belly of a giant snake. The first episode in this collection, "Naruto’s Counterattack: Never Give In!", has every one's "Number One Hyperactive Knucklehead Ninja" rejoining the fight and boosting the other two squad member's morale with a speech about never giving in to fear, no matter how hard things get.

Before the end of the volume, it becomes obvious that this Grass Ninja is something more than another Genin trying to graduate to the next rank, and in it gets revealed that this is Squad 7's first fight (of many) against the rogue ninja, Orochimaru. Both Sasuke (even Sasuke's Sharingan doesn't seem to give him any real advantage over this villain) and Naruto become hurt badly before Orochimaru is fended off and now Sakura is left to defend her squad alone.

Can Sakura, the top Genin of her year, but someone who has more book knowledge than raw talent, defend her friends long enough for them to recover? How will the marks that Orochimaru left on Naruto and Sasuke before he left tie to their fates? Why won't Rock Lee stop bothering Sakura with his exaggerated confessions of love? Unfortunately, only some of these are answered by the end of the disc, and we will have to wait for the next DVD to find out exactly how it all goes down.
