Hercule Poirot's adventures continue in Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 2. These nine episodes have Poirot (David Suchet), Hastings (Hugh Fraser) and Chief Inspector Japp (Philip Jackson) taking on quite a few murders, a missing Prime Minister, lost antiques and even a couple of really high profile cases.

The first episode is a two-parter where Poirot and Hastings learn that a woman has had several "near accidents." Poirot believes that these are actually attempts on her life. As he and Hastings investigate who might want the lady dead, they uncover quite a few odd details. Everything from a unannounced engagement to missing wills are revealed before the real culprit or culprits are uncovered.

In another episode, Poirot is asked to help a woman who is being blackmailed, but once again, it seems like not everyone is telling the truth. When Poirot considers how successful a criminal he would be, he is given the chance to break into the blackmailer's house and prove his skills. Imagine the confusion when Poirot learns that the man with the blackmailer's name has been dead for over a week.

In another case, "The Cornish Mystery," a woman comes to Poirot believing she is being poisoned by her husband. By the time Poirot and Hastings make it to her town, she is already dead. All the evidence points to the deceased's husband - but that could be just a ruse?

In "Double Sin," Poirot and Hastings take a trip where they meet a young lady who helps her aunt at an antique shop. When the expensive wares are stolen while they are all on the bus, Hastings takes up the case because Poirot has decided to retire. Coincidentally, Japp is giving a speech about his "most interesting cases" in the same town.

Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 2 also features an episode that involves an FBI agent joining Japp's ranks to attempt to retrieve stolen Navy blueprints. In this same episode, Poirot and Hastings investigate an apparently unrelated case that Hastings doesn't believe is all that important. But, of course, Poirot sees connections that no one around him seems to see.

Another high profile case has the British government hiring Poirot to find the kidnapped Prime Minister. Time is of the essence as the PM is scheduled to appear at a League of Nations summit as discussions pertaining to the rearmament of Germany are on the agenda.

Like the first series on Blu-ray, Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 2 looks good in high definition, but isn't widescreen, so anyone expecting a full HD experience should be warned. Even with that, the video and audio quality is still really good, especially given the age of these episodes. This particular collection is a good set of mysteries, so any fan of the Belgian detective should still be interested in this particular release.
