It seems Simba also made a proclamation soon after reclaiming his throne - all of Scar's followers have been banished to the outskirts of the kingdom. The leader of this group, Zira (Suzanne Pleshette), sits in her dark territory with her pack, waiting for a chance to get revenge. At the start of her film, all she really knows is that her plan will involve her youngest son, Kovu (Jason Marsden).
Zira's starts to work out her plan when Kovu and Kiara meet one day as cubs and Simba's hard attitude towards Scar's group causes Kovu to dislike his lot in life. Fast-forward a few years and Kiara has grown up and is getting ready to go on her first hunt. At the same time, Zira puts her plan into motion and has Kovu "save" the lioness princess.
What follows is Kovu questioning his loyalties, Simba questioning his decisions in the past and Kiara trying to figure out how to be both her own person and the ruler she is going to be in the future. Of course, when Zira realizes that Kovu might not be following her plans, she gathers her pack and goes on the offensive.
There is only one additional feature on the Special Edition version of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. This has Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella) discussing the wide variety of insects that they like to munch on. All of the previously released special features are also included in this Blu-ray/DVD/Digital release. These include a collection of shorts where Timon and Pumbaa explain various things about our world.
One of the more interesting features is the animated short film "One by One." This musical tale goes through the story of a boy being inspired to build and fly a kite and inspiring others to do the same.
The Lion King 2 does a good job of taking the events of the first film to their next stage. While not really necessary to finish the story laid out in the first film, it is still a good show that teaches quite a few good lessons. While I wouldn't call The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride a full-on Disney classic, it should still be seen for people who are fans of the characters in The Lion King.
