Meanwhile, a young and wealthy tech upstart named Milo Khoury (Marshall Allman, True Blood) has hired renowned A.I. genius Dr. Athena Morrow (Carrie-Anne Moss, Matrix, Jessica Jones) to work on a super secret project he has in the works, but she has her own agenda, namely using his vast resources to give her sentient A.I. "V" a place to spread her wings, even as she deals with her own personal tragedies.
One of the new characters this season is Hester (Sonya Cassidy, Vera), a factory worker synth who awakens, but is much more aggressive than any of the others, based on her unsavory interactions with humans. Fortunately, she ends up with Leo and Max, but as the group discover that they are in competition with some mysterious company to get to the synths who awaken first, her views of humans turn more and more dark, especially once they discover what befalls those synths who are captured.
Back in Berlin, Niska finds love in the arms of a sweet German girl named Astrid (Bella Dayne), but decides she must face the consequences of the murder she committed last year and she wants Karen Hawkins to defend her. While it's not what Karen had envisioned for her legal future, she realizes no one else will step up on behalf of the synths and she seeks to have Niska recognized as sentient and face trial as she would a human.
Back at home, Mattie (Lucy Carless, Suspects, Code of a Killer) has managed to tweak David Elster's code some to speed up the awakening of the synths, but should they release it or would chaos ensue? She's also retrieved poor Odi (Will Tudor, Game of Thrones) from the dump and is trying to put him back together again and awakens him the process, but Odi just misses his old life and struggles to adjust. Toby (Theo Stevenson) has become enamored with a girl at school named Renie (Letitia Wright) who is a "synthie," that is, a human who mimics the behavior and look of a synth. Unfortunately, little sister Sophie (Pixie Davies) thinks Renie is the coolest and soon starts to emulate her synthie behavior, much to her family's chagrin.
DS Pete Drummond (Neil Maskell) and DI Karen Voss (Ruth Bradley) have moved in together and are living quite happily, with his knowledge that she is a synth living as a human. However, she starts having difficulty living her double life, especially when they are called in to investigate these new sentient synths. When the pair make a shocking discovery about a new type of synth on the black market called a Seraphim, it could rock their entire world.
Naturally, this is only a touch of what happens this season because HUMANS 2.0 is a thriller and a mystery and it needs to organically unfold for the viewer, but this season is one hell of a roller coaster ride. There is a nice selection of featurettes highlighting the new characters, the set, some behind the scenes and one of the more explosive scenes from this season. HUMANS 2.0 on Blu-ray is definitely the way to go because this show is awash with bold and crisp color and it simply pops on Blu-ray.
The season finale is quite a nail-biter and it sets things up for a truly explosive third series, one I can't wait to watch. If you enjoy good sci-fi, you should check out HUMANS 2.0, but not before watching the first season.
