Graphics & Sound: FIFA 2001 is a solid title in both graphics and sound. What would be a soccer game without the fans? Nothing. That's why crowd chants and other sound fx are at their peak in this title. Player models are a bit odd looking when up close (their shirts are maybe too baggy?), but look great from the overhead wide view. Framerates are well kept and there wasn't any noticeable slowdown during the game.
Gameplay: If you are a soccer fan, then you know that the sport is all about the game. And if you're not a fan of 'futbol,' you may want to take a looksy anyway. FIFA 2001 is a great substitute for the real thing and it's easy to get down and dirty right away. In no time at all, you will be running, kicking, and heading your way to victory. FIFA 2001 is a very fun game and will keep you entertained for a long time. FIFA 2001 has 5 modes of play including: Exhibition, Season, Training, Tournaments, and Custom Cup where you can create your own custom playoffs or league. Choose one of the many teams within any of the 16 leagues from around the world. And since FIFA 2001 is an MLS (Major League Soccer) officially licensed product, you will find all of the top stars in the sport controllable at your fingertips. Some options included are the ability to customize your players and teams, the option of team management and strategy, and changing the types of kicks you perform for corner and penalty kicks.
Difficulty: As a good soccer game should, FIFA 2001 does a great job of not allowing too many goals. Anyone that watches the real deal will know that the best match is one with little scoring. EA Sports hit home on this key ingredient, so don't be disappointed if it takes you a while to score. Of course, you can adjust the difficulty settings to suit your own needs. Button controls are basic enough that you won't have to think too hard about what you're doing either.
Game Mechanics: If you want to, you can perform all kinds of cool tricks like bicycle kicks and headers, but playing the game is as simple as passing and shooting. How you go about these tasks is up to you. FIFA 2001 is a great simulation and will be loved by many. Shoot, for all sports, soccer has the biggest following in the world. Besides, how can so many people be wrong? Anyone that enjoys sports games will enjoy FIFA 2001 because of its excellent gameplay. PS2:The PlayStation 2 does seem to improve upon FIFA 2001's textures a little bit. Player jerseys are most notably smoother. Load times also seem to be faster, so you can get into the game in no time at all.
