Graphics & Sound: The graphics in Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition haven't changed from the original, but they are still incredible when used in conjunction with a 3D Accelerator (although not required). Textures are completely smooth and the 3D worlds draw you into the environment with perfection. Music and sound fx help engulf you into the heart-pounding action and help make you almost feel the explosions around you.
Gameplay: Included in UT: Game of the Year Edition is the outstanding original multiplayer mayhem along with some new features that add to the excitement of the already frantic on-screen carnage. UT: GOTY offers many modes of play including the ever-popular Deathmatch, as well as Capture the Flag, Assault, and Domination. New to the screen are the Rocket Arena and Chaos modes. Rocket Arena pits you against your opponent in a no-power-ups fight to the death. Chaos adds a new twist to the action when you work your way through the maps using your gothic sword, long-range crossbow, and smiley-face mines with minds of their own! Unreal Tournament: GOTY allows for single player action without an Internet connection, or multiplayer via TCP/IP (Internet or LAN). Multiplayer is where the heart of the game is, although even playing by yourself is quite entertaining. Worlds range from relatively small arenas to vast worlds just waiting for you to run around in. In fact, UT: GOTY offers 60 additional maps not included in the original.
Difficulty: Unreal Tournament: GOTY is not an easy game. In single player mode, you will start out slow, but in no time at all you will be overcome by the superb AI (artificial intelligence) of the 'bots' (computer controlled players). Don't worry if you are new to the genre though, as UT offers tutorials for all of the different game modes to help familiarize you with the controls and the play of the game. Difficulty in multiplayer mode will depend on the players you are facing, but you will find a variety of difficulty levels as you scour the Internet for games.
Game Mechanics: Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition is one sweet game. With tons of maps, modes of play, and frantic single and multiplayer action, UT is where it's at. Using the included game-finder, you can search the Internet for the perfect game. Controls are very user-friendly and the interface is Windows-familiar. UT: GOTY is near perfect, and should be a must buy for any fan of the first person shooter genre.
