Tomahawk-Free Introduction:
As of this writing, Red Dead Redemption is the best-selling game of 2010 -- and rightly so. Rockstar's Western epic is stuffed to the brim with prime content for loners and posse runners alike. Rockstar has decided to show a little love to gamers who are really getting into the game's fantastic multiplayer component; specifically, the competitive multiplayer component. You can tell already that Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers isn't for each and every Red Dead fan out there. However, if it's more competitive content you crave, Legends and Killers is absolutely worth the ten-dollar price.

The Tomahawk Section:
Let me get the gushing out of the way first. Tomahawks. Are. Awesome! One of the best and most welcome additions in Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers is the classic American throwing axe/brutal murder tool. Using tomahawks in combat is sure to give any red-blooded human being a primal sense of joy. Thrown tomahawks will lodge themselves in anything that gets in the way, whether it's the side of the building or the back of your buddy's head. You don't have to throw them, though. If you let off the aiming button, you can simply run up to someone and hack them to death. It sounds like the fine folks at Rockstar borrowed some sound effects from Manhunt; it's that disgusting and awesome.

Places to Go, People to Kill With Tomahawks:
Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers doesn't introduce any drastically new locations; New Austin and Nuevo Paraiso are still your collective playground. Nothing about Free Roam has changed. However, there are nine new maps for Gang and Free For All Matches, and all of them are fantastic. First up is the urbanized town of Blackwater, where everything in Red Dead Redemption begins and ends. It's a great place for a shootout; the straight roads and claustrophobic back alleys set up several opportunities for you and your gang to raise hell. Plus, many of the buildings offer superb vantage points for any random guy with a Rolling Block Rifle. Next up is Thieves' Landing. This shantytown straddles a foggy swamp that poses a lethal threat to those who don't stay mindful of their environment. Oh, and there are a number of gatling gun emplacements. Using these guns is sure to light up your enemies' radars, so make sure you've got a contingency plan when you hop on. The best of the new maps is Rio Bravo; a desert location that sports a tiny mountain smack in the center. This mountain is laced with a number of narrow pathways. It's genius, really; Rio Bravo encourages players to be stealthy. Combine that with tomahawk warfare -- this experience alone is worth the asking price of the Legends and Killers pack.

The "Legends and Killers" in question may very well be the stars of Red Dead Revolver. If you remember a particular character from that game, chances are, you'll find him or her in this package.

You Had Me At "Tomahawks":
Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers isn't for people who want more single player action or Free Roam content. Nor is it for people who weren't wholly satisfied by the free Outlaws to the End cooperative mission pack. No, this is for people who love to play Gold Rush and Shootout. If you don't like Red Dead Redemption's competitive multiplayer, you should hold off for a future release. If you do, I can't imagine a better way to spend ten dollars. But really, Rockstar should have had you at "tomahawks."
