Function:

Do you like bass? Need earphones that are highly portable but can still deliver the thump you're looking for? That's just exactly what Headbanger's Ear Subs are designed for.

Performance:

Sound comes first. The Ear Subs provide excellent clarity and bass response. Unlike some other ear buds that merely rest in your ear, the Ear Subs have a soft rubber insert that you stick into your ear, much like ear plugs. To provide a more custom fit, the Ear Subs come with two pair of these fittings - one larger set and one smaller set. I found that they were quite comfortable and with these inserts, they helped to isolate me from some external noise - much more than traditional ear buds, anyway. In fact, I used the Ear Subs to watch The Punisher UMD with my PSP on my couch while my wife was playing Medal of Honor: European Assault on the PS2 and the only time I could hear the gunshots coming from her game were during points that my movie got really quiet. (And for those how don't know, she plays her shooters loud.)

As for portability and comfort, the Ear Subs come fully equipped. You can choose from two pairs of ear inserts and three different carrying options (a neck lanyard, a cradle clip and a carabiner clip), all of which are included in the package. This allows you to carry the Ear Subs in the way that best suits your lifestyle. I found the ear inserts to be quite comfortable and the larger pair helped to reduce external noise even better than the smaller pair.

Drawbacks & Problems::

There are certain warnings that the Ear Subs have marked on them. One in particular is not to use the Ear Subs with a device with "Bass Boost" turned on. The reason for this is not explained, but could very likely include causing damage to the Ear Subs, one's ears or both. Also, as a precaution, you should never turn the Ear Subs or the audio device you're using them with on or off with the Ear Subs in your ears. Doing so can cause an audible electronic pop that can be painful if the volume is turned up sufficiently.

If you take these precautions, however, the Ear Subs can provide a very nice audio experience. I would highly recommend them to people who are old enough to take such precautions and use electronics mindfully.
