Jonesin' for an Action Flick...
Product: Summer Action Movies
The summer is upon us, and with it comes that blockbuster action/adventure sequel that everyone is all excited about. What movie am I referring to? Take your pick...

You know the type... with the exotic locations, the tense chase scenes, spectacular stunts, hints of the supernatural and a priceless treasure - and possibly much, much more - at stake. The summer of 2008 offers no less than three movies meeting these criteria, all following up on licenses that did well so far.

The most obvious, much anticipated and soon-to-be-theatrically-released, coming out May 22nd, 2008, of course, is the latest Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, featuring the return of Harrison Ford in his weathered Fedora and coiled whip. He's getting a bit old for this, but they maintain integrity by accepting this as part of the story. From the trailers I've seen, this is very much a "I'm getting too old for this" part for Dr. Jones. In this story, Karen Allen reprises the role of Marion Ravenwood and Shia LaBeouf is introduced as Mutt Williams, apparently Indiana Jones' protege. To get ready for this latest sequel, you may want to watch the initial trilogy on DVD.

If you're more into Egyptian antiquities, or, I suppose, Asian artifacts, then you may prefer to check out Indiana Jones: Asia Care of Egypt, or as sane people commonly know it, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. That's right... if you haven't seen anything about this upcoming action/adventure flick, it might be that they're trying to ride out the Indiana Jones fanfare until after it has a chance to die down. I can't predict how well Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skill will do in theaters, but it will have to last over two months in the theaters if it's going to still be running when The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor releases on August 1st, 2008. Maybe I've been under some rocks, lately, but I find this news to be surprising - I haven't heard anything about this upcoming The Mummy sequel until today, but apparently it was in post-production as of last November. This time, Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his son, Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) are working in the Far East when they uncover the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin, effectively achieving a change of scenery while keeping to the tried-and-true formula.

If you're an Amuhrican and durn proud of it, you may prefer to check out the latest installment of Indiana Jones: USA or, as everyone else refers to it: National Treasure, where your scruffy-looking nerf-herder-type person is played by Nicolas Cage and the action is centered around the mysteries of the founding fathers of the good 'ole U.S. of A.

And, no you didn't miss an ad or trailer somewhere, National Treasure 3 is not coming out this summer (according to IMDB, they're targeting 2010 with that one), but the second installment, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was just released on both DVD and Blu-ray, so if you're looking for an action flick to watch in the comfort of your own home-theater, you might want to pick up a copy.
