NOCC: Sci-Fi Jeopardy
Company: Wizard World
Product: New Orleans Comic Con 2012 Coverage
This year's New Orleans Comic Con started off on Saturday morning with a few rounds of Jeopardy themed Sci-Fi trivia hosted by some of the people who run the Lake Charles science fiction convention, BayouCon. The game's officiators not only created the Jeopardy board that was projected onto a screen, but also a custom buzz-in box for the contestants to tap in order to attempt to answer the questions ... or ... question the answers?

The first round saw three contestants being given the categories: "Ships of the Line," "Who Wrote That," "Stan Lee," "We Are the Borg," "Retro Sci-Fi" and "Planetary Potpourri." The first category gave clues that identified various pieces of Sci-Fi literature and the contestants were supposed to answer with the author (in the form of a question, of course). They were asked everything from I, Robot to A Wrinkle in Time to The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Another category chosen regularly was "Ships of the Line." Here, photos of various space ships like the Serenity from Firefly and the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space were displayed and the contestants needed to identify them.

Game 2 of Sci-Fi Jeopardy not only saw a new trio of audience member-contestants, but six new categories as well. "Red Shirts," "Name That Actor," "Something, Something Darkside," "From Page to Film," "Mickey Fiction" and "Walking to New Orleans" were on the board for this round. Red Shirts asked questions about death scenes in Sci-Fi while Something, Something Darkside focused on the Family Guy Star Wars Specials and Mickey Fiction was all about Disney-produced science fiction like The Black Hole.

The third round was played quickly as time was running out for the session. Here, questions ranged from Big Bang Theory to Star Trek to William Shatner and the roles he portrayed. The Star Trek questions included identifying quotes like Q's iconic line from the first episode of TNG, "You will now answer the charge of being a grievously savage race," to the alcoholic beverage of choice, Romulan Ale. The Big Bang Theory questions seemed to focus on cameo appearances like Summer Glau, LeVar Burton and George Takei. This round ended on a stumper of a question about William Shatner. While none of the contestants got that question, the winner, along with the other two winners returned to the stage for a final one-question round of Final Jeopardy.

This last round involved a wager and the winner of the event received several tickets to BayouCon in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The category was "Sci-Fi Celebrities," and the answer was "This science fiction actor once worked as a taxi driver while studying acting." Unfortunately, none of the contestants were able to provide the correct question, "Who is Leonard Nimoy," but that doesn't mean that everyone, both the audience members and the contestants didn't have a fun time watching and participating in the trivia contest.
