Doom 3 System Specs revealed?
Company: id Software
Product: Doom 3
With the announcement of Doom 3 going gold late last week, one burning question still looms in the minds of many gamers; "What kind of system specs will I need in order to play the game?" While id has been tight-lipped on the exact system specifications, the latest issues of the Houston Chronicle might just have the answers gamers are looking for.

According to Dwight Silverman, who says his information comes from Tom Hollenshead, id's chief executive, Doom 3 will require:

  • A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500.
  • 384 megabytes of memory.
  • Two gigabytes of hard drive space.
  • An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better.

Silverman then went on to list his own recommendations about what gamer's will need to squeeze the most out of Doom 3. These included a 3 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and a GeForce 5900XT or Radeon 9600.

Bottom line, this game is going to take a monster of a system, so if you don't meet the stats its probably a good idea to start looking at upgrades now. Then again, you could always wait for the Xbox version, which should be out in October.

Doom 3, for the PC, ships on August 3 of this year.
