Eragon: The Last Dragon Rider Company: VU Games Eragon is tale of a young boy who must face his destiny when his family is killed by the evil emporer and now must learn about a mysterious power that has been bestowed upon him. Eragon is the last Dragon Rider. He was given his power when he discovered a glowing blue dragon egg and helped it hatch. Now he and the dragon will travel across the land with his teacher (an old wizened warrior who seems to know more about Eragon's hidden powers than even the young farm boy himself) in order to stop the emperor and his first in command. Eragon starts off with the young hero not knowing how to do much more than swing his sword and aim his bow. But it isn't long before you are taught how to make more precise shots, more powerful sword attacks and even use your magical powers to push and pull enemies and objects. Eragon isn't alone in his trek. For the first part of his mission, he is accompanied by his new teacher, Brom, and later by Murtagh. And from what I saw in this preview, there are going to be many times when you are thankful for the other character at your back. One of the other major game mechanics in the game are the rail-shooter style dragon riding scenarios where you take to the sky on the back of Eragon's blue dragon Saphira. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to read the Eragon book, and the movie hasn't hit theaters at the time of this writing, so I don't know how close the game follows either of those two sources, but that is something best left for the review anyway. What I can say is that Eragon, the game, looks like it has the makings of a fairly solid medieval-era action game. This title hits the shelves later this month, while the film takes to the silver screen in December. Stay tuned for the full review. -J.R.
