Power Play Sports Trivia
Score: 42%
ESRB: Everyone
Publisher: Ubisoft Entertainment
Developer: Starsphere Interactive
Media: CD/1
Players: 1 - 4 (Multitap)
Genre: Trivia

Graphics & Sound:
I wasn't expecting a whole lot of graphics for Power Play Sports Trivia, and guess what? I didn't get a whole lot. Let's see, I guess I can say the font size and color are both REALLY good because it makes the letters readable. And the animations, golly I was blown away with the way the words would scroll off the screen. I am in such shock of the graphics that I just can't say anymore. Thank God!

Now if I've ever heard background music that's more fitting to the graphics, I can't think of it. The little synthesized tones REALLY got me excited about answering Sports Trivia. I nearly fell out of my chair when the music started speeding up with the higher rounds.

Gameplay:
The premise of Sports Trivia is this: answer the questions, relating to sports, for points. Hold on, did I lose you? If so, read the previous sentence slower. That's right SPORTS fans, if you think you have the knowledge for Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Hockey, then test your knowing ability here. In fact, there are two ways to check your cranium. Tournament allows up to four players to ring in when they think they know the answer of ten questions. If they get it right, they can win either 100, 200, or 300 points. If they get it wrong, they lose the same value. The other mode is the Last Man Standing. Basically, you answer questions until you get a certain number of them wrong, and then the game is over. The person still in the game wins! WHOOPEE!!!

Difficulty:
There are 4,000 trivia questions geared towards the four sports previously mentioned. The only way Sports Trivia gets harder is if you don't know the answer, or if you change the number of allotted wrong answers (1, 3, or 5) for Last Man Standing.

Game Mechanics:
The only good I can come up with is that there is no loading time. However, with the little amount of graphics and sound used, there shouldn't be a loading time. I was also a little shocked the analog controller shakes when the clock beats down. With everything else being so sub-par, I didn't think they'd put the time in for the controller. Here's the thing that I don't get. Two memory blocks will be used when saving. Two! Seriously, all that is being saved is the Hall of Fame records.

PS2: Believe me, no matter what you do, there is no way to make Power Play Sports Trivia better. I guess you could throw the disc with a dog, and see if he retrieves it. Now that's entertainment!

Now, I realize this game only costs ten bucks, but there has got to be a better way to spend your money. Let's see, you could:

- go see a movie
- go sit in the cheap seats of a sporting event
- save the money for a better game

The list goes on and on. The best way I can sum up Power Play Sports Trivia is with a line from Adam Sandler when he was on Saturday Night Live: "Who are the Ad Wizards that came up with this one?"
