Last Chance to Save the World: Chaotic Orbits - Book 3 starts off with the pair flying to Earth. It seems that Ada has actually convinced Rian that the rebel group Jane Irwin might actually be onto something. The nanobots that are about to be released into Earth's atmosphere in order to detoxify it are actually a plot by the richest man in the galaxy to force the location of humanity's origins to be indebted to him (literally) in order to keep their air clean.
Armed with a virus designed by Ada, she and Rian must infiltrate the launch facility and alter the nanobots' code so that it does what is actually advertised and not cripple Earth even more. This time though, Ada and Rian won't be working at cross purposes, but that doesn't mean Ada is going to tell Rian the whole plan, of course. Rian is still law enforcement and they both know that after the launch (regardless of how the mission turns out), Rian is going to arrest Ada.
As before, the two play a bit of a cat and mouse game as Ada works to achieve her secret goals, all while leading Rian by the nose. Of course, Rian himself is working on his own contingency plans, but they both recognize their feelings for each other, which makes the inevitable betrayals that much more heartbreaking. Then again, there is enough of an opening at the end of this book, that I wouldn't be surprised if Revis plans out a new set of adventures for this pair, just to keep the game going.
I enjoyed the quick reads of these novellas. While I tend to prefer long, door-stopper tomes of books, these three adventures were fun toe-dips into a world that has a lot of character development in just a few pages. Where the first installment, Full Speed to a Crash Landing introduced us to Ada and Rian, the trajectory of the overall story wasn't clear. The trilogy's second installment did a lot to establish exactly what the focus of the series would be (besides the budding relationship, of course), and Last Chance to Save the World: Chaotic Orbits - Book 3 pretty much fulfills every promise that the previous books made.
